2003-07-09 - 11:08 a.m. April 21st and beyond……. We’re up not too early to head across western Texas to Colorado. We’re to head west from Dallas and then head northwest and cross a little portion of New Mexico. We pass our turnoff and have to find an alternate route. This takes us through giant Bluebell fields that are mind blowing! The Bluebell is the Texas state flower. They stand 6 to 10 inches tall and when in bloom, have many little flowers in the shape of blue bells that form the conical shape of the plant. We’re in the middle of wildflower season and the Bluebell's were coming on strong. We came around a turn was amazed to an entire field of Bluebells. The field must have been over 100 acres and a royal blue that rolled up and away as far as you could see! It always seems we see something really cool when we get lost. We travel through some beautiful red rock formations. Eventually we get to Colorado Springs and our show at the Utopia Café. This is a tiny, tiny place. I have no idea how they do it but they will pack 100 people in a 25’x15’ room! They love us here and we always do well. Fort Collins is next. We’re back at the Starlight. It’s a dark, kind of divey rock club. The folks who work there are big punk rock fans and treat us like we’re aliens. Denver is next. We play the Bluebird. Ate some great Thai food. I really like the Bluebird. It’s a little theater with good sound and good people running the show. The place was 2/3 full and into it. Back to the Fox in Boulder. It doesn’t get much better than the Fox. We have a good crowd and it’s a good show. Home……..We stop off in Bowling Green and get drunk with our bud Tom McLaughlin.
